“Sometimes I have believed as many six impossible things before breakfast.” -Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

Alice and I certainly have one thing in common.  I’ve been an avid reader since elementary school and have always had an appreciation for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.  The book truly changed the landscape for children’s literature (and made for a great Disney animated adaptation too!) The story encourages thinking outside of the box and using one’s imagination.  I absolutely love this hard cover edition of the classic tale from Barnes and Noble (Anthropologie also has an adorable version).  I  thought the book was all too fitting for this dreamy, whimsical look.

From top buns to tulle, it’s not hard to see how traditional ballet costumery has influenced fashion.  I’m always attracted to the ultra-feminine trends when it comes to my personal style, so the modern day ballerina look has been something I’ve wanted to try for a while.  You can imagine my excitement when I came across this ballerina pink tulle skirt at BCBGeneration (similar here).  My off-the-shoulder BCGBGeneration black top and these classic black an gold heels (similar here) helped complete the ballerina look.  These Kendra Scott Earrings in Crystal from the Color Bar™ are one of my favorite pairs.  I’ve had them for a few years and they are the perfect statement earring to add a girly touch to any look.

A bun of some sort was a must for this look, and this one was easy to achieve.  I simply teased the top of my hair, twisted and pinned it back, and left a small strand to twist around the top of the bun for a messy, top knot look.

This look is perfect for a night out at a musical, symphony or the ballet!

1-vandi-fair-lauren-vandiver-austin-tidbits-feature-style-blog-bloggerAs a newbie in the blogging world, I was absolutely tickled for my first ever feature in Austin Tidbits, an amazing online website covering what’s chic and local for fashionable women on the go.  Sign up to get their free, twice weekly newsletter here and read on to see their latest feature on yours truly.

Fair-well xx,

Meet Lauren Vandiver, the blondie behind Vandi Fair. The style blogger scours the alleyways and neighborhoods of Austin, from 5th street to the East Side, to find backdrops for her style posts. Here, she’s pictured in front of a mural by local comic book artist Bill Jeffery in the South Congress alleyway behind New Bohemia. We chatted with the UT grad to find out her fave Austin mural and the fashion mavericks who inspire her…

What’s different about your blog?
Austin is speckled with so many amazing street murals that truly make the city an art mecca unlike any other, and I use them as backdrops to showcase my personal style. My favorite is theYou’re My Butter Half mural on MLK painted by an artist from United Way. I haven’t gotten around to taking any photos in front of it yet, but it is definitely on my list.

Why the name Vandi Fair?
From childhood through college, I always dreamed of writing for a fashion magazine, so the name Vandi Fair seemed all too fitting for my blog, which is inspired by things colorful, whimsical and beautiful!

What makes Texas women stylish?
Texas women have no problem wearing something that may make heads turn.

Favorite cocktail in town?
The Maverick at Hotel San Jose. It’s a mix of a ginger brew, Lonestar and lemonade – so refreshing!

Go-to boutique shop in Austin?
While I’m a huge online shopper, I do enjoy strolling the streets of SoCo and peeking my head into Maya Star. They have the perfect mix of trendy meets classic Austin boho pieces.

If you could walk a mile in any designer’s shoes, whose would they be?
Rebecca Minkoff. She has such an incredible and inspiring start up story and I love her classic and colorful meets edgy style. She moved to NYC at just 18 to make her dreams of being a fashion designer come true and did just that. She’s not afraid to play with loud prints and patterns and contrasting colors, but she also has a lot of timeless pieces.

What blogger do you follow each and every day?
I have been a huge fan of Blair Eadie from Atlantic Pacific for years. She is someone I always look to for style inspiration because I feel like our styles are very similar. I love the way she always uses accessories as a major part of her looks.

If you’ve seen my tropical shorts look or my tropically-inspired picks, you probably know I’m a big fan of this vacation-inspired trend for summer.  When I stumbled upon this darling pink paradise skirt from Forever 21 featuring palm leaves and parrots, adding it to my shopping cart was a no-brainer.  I originally intended to pair it with a white crop top or eyelet top, but I liked how this periwinkle top (similar here) brought out the color of the palm leaves in the skirt.  Although it’s hard to find, periwinkle is one of my favorite colors to wear, especially when paired with pretty abalone jewels from Kendra Scott.  I got this brown leather crossbody by Michael Kors over a year ago and I love it for a day when I’m on my feet because not only is it lightweight, but it also includes spots for your id and cards.  The bag happened to tie in my brown leather Steve Madden sandals perfectly.

My hair is ultra fine, so it’s sometimes hard to find fun hairstyles to try.  I was planning to do two tiny braids on the sides of my hair and attach them in the back for a half up look, but I decided I liked the laid back look of the single braid alone.

This is a perfect weekend day look, whether you’re on a tropical weekend or at your favorite local shopping spot.

Fair-well xx,

There’s something about a t-shirt and heels that just feels like playing dress up again.  Because this statement necklace can go so glam, I actually prefer pairing it with casual looks like this one.  I got this white skort from Zara a year ago and I still wear it so often.  The unique cut of it makes it feel so modern and the skort element makes it comfortable enough for day or night.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here!  And in case navigating through the whole sale feels a bit daunting, I’ve selected some of my favorite picks in this amazing summer sale. This is one of the biggest shopping events of the year – featuring pre-fall and fall items with deep discounts.  Though Christmas may seem like a long time away, this is the perfect time to start crossing off your gift list (your bank account will thank you for it later!)

Some of my favorites in the sale are the gorgeous watches, like this Michael Kors two-toned watch (which will be making a debut in my own watch collection soon!) There’s also a fantastic selection of boots (fall will be here before you know it!) and jewelry like these Kendra Scott classic earrings and monogram necklace.

Happy shopping!
