Happy Monday! I haven’t done any home updates here on the blog lately, so I’m super excited to start the week off by revealing a space in our house that’s been month’s in the making…our new guest room area, featuring the most comfortable mattress ever thanks to our friends at Mattress Firm (of course we had to try it out!). You may remember our master bedroom update from earlier this year that featured a new mattress that we absolutely love, and now we are so thrilled that our guests can sleep in heavenly comfort thanks to the Beautyrest Black Hybrid Plush we scooped up from Mattress Firm.

Click on the read more button below to see all the pretty little details in this blue and white bedroom space that we are so thrilled to have for our guests to stay in.

So you may also remember that Cole and I currently live in a two bedroom house. We’re still renting the same one we’ve been in since we got married and we hope to buy a larger home before the year is over, but until then, we decided we needed to make a little space for our guests. The extra bedroom in our home is used as my office (which you can see here), and since blogging can be a bit of a messy business, we decided we definitely need to keep my office in a space that can be closed off. So when we decided to make a space for our guests, there was only one room left that we could use…our “family room” AKA Cole’s giant man cave. It’s the one room in our house that hasn’t been featured on the blog, and it’s actually quite a big space, but it’s rarely ever used for anything except storage when our garage is at capacity.  While the room doesn’t have a door that can close, the opening to the room is narrow, so we decided could easily purchase a room divide to place for our guests to use along the entryway to the room.

So a few weeks ago, Cole and I took a weekend to transform Cole’s man cave turned storage unit into a functional space for guests. While the space is only a temporary solution until we buy our more permanent residence and have an actual guest room, I absolutely love the way it turned out!!

To start, I have to give you all the low down on this truly incredible mattress from Mattress Firm. After taking a quiz that detailed our preferences (which we answered thinking about our guests!) on soft to firmness, quilted vs. pillow top, etc., Mattress Firm dreamed up the perfect mattress for our guest room. A queen-sized Simmons Beautyrest Black Hybrid Plush arrived at our door not long after, and it was love at first sight (or sleep, I should say).  Cole and decided we should immediately try it out, and it was heavenly. With AirCool memory foam, the mattress was soft and cool enough to sleep on without any sheets at all, which we totally did for a little Sunday nap sesh. What I especially loved about the memory foam is that it’s not that type that you sink in to…while it is soft, it’s still firm enough that it provides plenty of support (which this belly sleeper definitely needs!) It’s perfect for those looking for an in-between firm and soft (which we also thought would be perfect for our guests!)

In truth, my plan was to wait to set the mattress up at our guest room in our new home, but after feeling how amazingly comfortable it was, the mattress inspired us to go ahead and create a guest room space (I just couldn’t wait to put it to use!!) Next up, it was time to think about decorating! To start, I knew I had my white Anthropologie quilt stowed away in the closet, and since it was in such good shape and I love clean white bedding, I decided to start with it as a base. There are 1000’s of colors, patterns, schemes that would totally work with white bedding, so it was a bit of a head scratcher deciding what to go with. Then I remembered all of the navy and gold items we’d gotten from our wedding registry and decided to use that as a color palette. I’ve always loved the color blue in homes, from deep navy tones to light and bright aquatic hues, because there’s something about the color that’s so classic and also serene. Since we didn’t want to paint the house or use wallpaper (which I totally plan to do with this guest room once we move!), I knew we needed to add a lot of blue. I started with this gorgeous blue paisley rug from my friends at Rugs USA. I love the unique print and the tassel detail + their prices are always incredible. The rug was perfect for adding a pop of blue to the overall room, but I also needed more for the bed, so this pretty navy headboard was the perfect place to start. For the decorative details to go with the bedding, I fell in love with these blue pagoda print pillows by Shelby Dillon and this art print set, also by Shelby Dillon, was just the thing I needed to add some detail to the wall above the bed. I love symmetry in a bedroom, so this set of antique-inspired blue and white lamps were perfect for adding to the color scheme and creating that perfect symmetry in the room.

I also wanting to add some pops of lush gold in the room, so the gold moroccan pouf that used to be in our living room found the perfect new spot here in the guest room space. You may also remember our NYE bar cart I posted several months back, and it was the perfect piece for making our guest room even more inviting and providing that gorgeous gold pop I was looking for.

Last of all, our plan for our guest bathroom is to go with a light rose color scheme to go along with our rose-colored silk sheets and shams we have on our guest bed, so I wanted to include these amazing rose pink bath towels by Serena and Lily (they’re heavenly y’all!) that will serve as the inspiration color/starting point for our guest bathroom.

Stay tuned for more home reveals and updates (I’ll definitely reshoot this guest room once it’s alllll decked out in our new home!) here on the bloG!

Thanks so much love!! I love white bedding because 1 – you can always change the throws and pillows if you get bored of it. And 2 – you can bleach it!! 😉

Thanks so much for the love!
