If you follow me on instagram, you might have caught a glimpse of some of the breathtaking scenery and adventure Cole and I experienced just a few weeks ago on our Alaskan cruise with Princess Cruises. The photos hardly do the trip justice because it was truly the most breathtaking, majestic trip either of us have ever been on, but I’m going to be sharing them (and some of my first-ever travel video footage!) anyway in a series of several posts here on the blog. 😉

To start, I’m sharing a peek at the gorgeous ship that we called home through the seven day Alaskan cruise, the Ruby Princess, along with an example of a nautical-inspired cruise ship outfit idea that’s perfect for your days at sea.

So the first question I must answer is…

Should You Plan an Alaskan Cruise?

and the answer is an obvious, resounding…

YES!!!

I actually have a blog post planned that goes into every reason you should absolutely plan an Alaskan cruise, but since this is my first post about the cruise, I had to address it . Don’t get me wrong, I was absolutely ecstatically thrilled when I found out about our opportunity to experience an Alaskan cruise with Princess Cruises…I literally did the happy dance, squealed loudly, scared the dogs…all of the usual. But as excited as I was to cruise with Princess Cruises, Alaska hadn’t previously been high on my travel bucket list. I came to the very quick realization during our Alaskan cruise, however, that I was a complete dodo brain for not having it at the very top of that list. Alaska should 100% be a priority place for everyone to visit because there is truly nothing else like it on this planet. From the majestic glaciers to the incredible wildlife, it is truly a trip of a lifetime kind of experience, and the very best way to take it all in is through a cruise. You can take a peek at our Alaskan Cruise itinerary for yourself here!

Okay, I’ll get more into the details of why you must go on an Alaskan cruise later, but for now, I’m going to start by taking you chronologically through what Cole and I experienced, starting with the Ruby Princess ship, since we spent our first day at sea.

This was my first cruise ever, so I am by no means a cruising expert, but from the moment we arrived at the port in Seattle, I couldn’t have imagined a more smooth sailing experience. 😉  I was expecting to have to wait in a dizzying amount of long lines, but within 15 minutes we had checked our bags, gone through security and were led to our rooms where we met our amazing cabin steward who walked us through what we’d be experiencing over the next few days.

Once we got into our rooms, we gave ourselves the full tour and unpacked. I was incredibly impressed with the size of our room and even more so with our amazing closet!! I’d been told to pack as little as I could because closets were next-to-nothing in most cruise ships (advice which I failed to heed, naturally), so I was shocked to find more than enough space to unpack all of the things in my two large bags and Cole’s as well. I also absolutely loved our balcony space! There was enough room for a table and two chairs, and an incredible space for viewing the gorgeous sights to come.

After getting settled in and giving ourselves a full tour of the ship, and I was so amazed by how big it was. At the bow of the ship (AKA the front) there were two huge pools accompanied by giant TV’s and bars (which Cole fully enjoyed on Saturday and Sunday to watch all of the football games while we were art sea). At the top of this post you’ll find a shot of the bow of the ship and above is a look at the stern (AKA the back of the ship) which, to our surprise, had another pool, hot tubs, a bar and incredible views of the ocean.

As for the rest of the ship, every room seemed more beautiful than the next. We spent our first full day, which was a Sunday at sea, enjoying beautiful views of the Canadian coast from our stateroom balcony and further exploring the ship. Sunday night called for the Captain’s Toast, complete with a champagne waterfall,  and our first formal dinner in the beautiful Michelangelo dining room. The dress I wore matched the dazzling piazza of the ship perfectly.

You’ll be able to see a lot more of the interior of the beautiful Ruby Princess which guided us through the Gulf of Alaska once my first-ever travel video is uploaded to the post (which I’ll also be sharing over on my instagram!)

Stay tuned for more details from our incredible Alaskan adventure with Princess Cruises.

We’re going on this cruise this summer. Did you really wear your floppy hat on the ship? I’m afraid mine will fly away on the Alaskan cruise and was thinking of leaving at home for this cruise.
