Happy Monday friends! Apologies for being so MIA on the blog lately. Between traveling and pregnancy, I’ve let my exhaustion get the best of me, but I’m finally back in action in full force this week, starting with a fun and easy outfit that’s perfect for the office – a plaid blazer and skirt set. If you look closely, you’ll notice that this plaid blazer and mini skirt duo don’t actually match at all – I bought each of them separately, but I ended up loving the way way they looked together, perhaps even more than I would if the plaid prints were completely matchy matchy.

Before I talk about the trend, let me answer a question many of you may be asking…just where can you find this adorable record store?! Dallas locals rejoice – the record store is called Good Records and can be found on Greenville My photographer Angie showed me photos of it and I was smitten with the colorful, vintage look of the place, but when we went to shoot, both she and I ended up doing a little shopping to. I got a brand new Beatles record, but what I was most excited about was finding a vintage Mary Poppins soundtrack for just $6 and a Star Wars soundtrack for just $8! And I have to confess – when I bought these records, I didn’t even have a player. Luckily, I quickly found a cute and affordable record player at Amazon when I got home that evening and it was at my doorstep within a couple of days (I just couldn’t wait to play them!) Now I’m pretty sure Cole and the baby (who apparently can hear quite clearly now) have the Mary Poppins soundtrack memorized (it’s my favorite, especially when I’m cleaning the house!)

So back to the plaid skirt suit trend. Think Clueless with more muted colors (thankfully – even as a color lover I’m not sure how I’d feel about matching neon plaid suits!) And as you can see in the photos above, as long as you’re in a similar color palette, you can totally mix and match separates when wearing this trend. While you could easily make the look extra office chic with a crisp button down, you can also go for a more casual-cool look by opting for your fave graphic tee like I did for this outfit. To accessorize, opt for a sassy pair of pumps or booties like the Jeffrey Campbell pair I’m wearing here. The fedora trend also goes great with this look.
