I love a bright top with a fun pattern or shape, so you can imagine my excitement when I found this poppy red Kensie top at Dillards that offered it all (but sad that it’s no longer available online – see similar tops below). Peplums have been trending for a few years now, but I especially love a peplum paired with a ruffled skirt because the shapes pair so seamlessly together, feeling almost like a dress.  The top and skirt coordinates paired with these fun black and gold heels I found at Forever 21 made for a girly chic look that called for my go-to sock bun and Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Vivid Red.   I love layering tiny pendant necklaces for a unique look.  This pendant necklace from Kendra Scott is one of my favorites and it lays perfectly on top of my monogram necklace.

For my sock bun, I use one of my boyfriend’s thick Ralph Lauren socks, but if no amount of sock washing would make that an option for you, you can also buy a “sock bun” like this one that will give your bun a similar look.  If you re brave enough to give an old sock some love, converting it to a sock bun is super easy! You simply cut off the toe of the sock, and roll it up.  To get the sock bun looking fabulous in your hair, simply put it in a high ponytail, hold the sock bun at the tip of your ends, and roll it up!  I’ll post a more detailed tutorial with photos included soon. 🙂

I never thought to pair peplum with anything but a straight-legged jean or pencil skirt. Fabulous end result!

      Hi Kelli!

Thank you so much! I totally love the look pairing a peplum with a full or skater skirt looks too. Gives it a fresh, sophisticated look. 😉
