Looking for unique kids birthday party theme ideas for boys and girls? We combined our son and daughter’s first and third birthday celebrations for a pixie and pirate party they’ll never forget.
Everly and Maxon’s Third and First Birthday Party
Last weekend, we celebrate Everly and Maxon’s third and first birthday parties. After looking at our summer calendars and trying to find weekends to celebrate both Everly’s end of July birthday and Maxon’s end of August birthday, we decided to just combine their celebrations.
It was a decision I’m so glad we made! Since both of their birthdays land in the hottest months of the summer and are less than a month apart, a combined birthday party was a great way to save time and money. We’ll probably keep the tradition going for as long as our two toddlers will let us.
Dallas Kid’s Birthday Party Venue
We had both Everly’s Moana themed first birthday party and mermaid themed second birthday party outdoors at a pool. But after two years of outdoor birthday parties in the 100+ degree late-July weather, we knew we wanted to find an indoor venue.
After doing some research, I found Safari Run – the perfect indoor birthday party space for young kids. The Dallas area kid’s birthday party venue features a huge indoor play area, an arcade, plus, private party rooms which you can reserve for celebrations.
What I especially loved about Safari Run is how clean and safe the play area is. There are sinks within the play area and the employees encourage all children to wash their hands before and after play. There’s also soft padding all around the tunnels, slides and stairs.
This Dallas kid’s party venue even has a separate smaller play area for younger toddlers which Maxon and some of tinier tots played in.
Best of all, Everly and the other kids had an absolute blast playing in the indoor play area. It was honestly hard to get them to leave the play area for cake and pizza.
If you live in the Dallas area and are looking for a venue to celebrate your little one’s birthday, I highly recommend Safari Run.
Kid’s Birthday Party Theme Idea – Peter Pan Pirate Party
After doing some research on unique kids birthday party ideas for combination birthday parties, I immediately loved the Peter Pan party theme idea.
If you’ve seen Everly’s past birthday parties and both Maxon’s Jungle Book nursery and Everly’s Peter Pan nursery, then you know that I’m partial to Disney themes. Plus, a pixies and pirates party is fitting for both boys and girls.
It was also super easy to find pirate party theme decorations and more kids birthday party supplies that helped us create the Neverland vibe.
Best of all, we had plenty of decor to start with thanks to Everly’s nursery theme.
Peter Pan Birthday Party Invitation
We decided to save money on invitations by purchasing an invitation design on Etsy that we could print at home ourselves. I loved this Peter Pan invitation and it was super easy to add our details to the invite ourselves. The invites even had a cute backside option featuring Tinkerbell.
Then, we just printed the invitations off on some plain white card stock from our home printer and I used a paper cutting machine to finish them.
Peter Pan Pirate Party Decor
Since we held the party at a venue and we could only get there 15 minutes early to decorate, I wanted to make our kid’s birthday party decorations simple and easy to assemble.
I started with this super affordable green backdrop I found on Amazon. Although it gives off a 3-D appearance, it’s actually just a thicker fabric with the leaves printed on it.
Then, I used my Cricut to cut out the letters “Neverland”. I finished the backdrop off with a Peter Pan clock we used in Everly’s room and some sheer curtains I draped across. I attached it all to the portable backdrop holder I have for parties and photoshoots.
Pixie and Pirate Party Favors
I found the cute mermaid shell plates and pirate plates at Target and I knew they’d compliment the Neverland kids birthday party theme perfectly.
I also found these adorable felt pirate hats at Target too. I complimented them with pirate eye patches and some cute sequin star wands for the girls.
Peter Pan Never Grow Up Cake
I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a fancy cake, so I actually just ordered a custom cake from Walmart. Walmart bakery actually has amazing tasting cakes. Definitely the best out of all grocery store cakes I’ve ever tried!
Walmart Bakery allows you to customize frosting colors and a few other things. I had a set of Peter Pan figurines that we used for decor in Everly’s nursery that worked perfectly as cake toppers.
For the stars, I bought a sheet of white fondant frosting and used some of Everly’s Playdoh star shaped cookie cutters for the star shapes. To my surprise, it was super easy to just cut the shapes out and place them all over the cake.
I really love how their semi-homemade Peter Pan birthday cake turned out!
Peter Pan Pirate Party Cookies
For favors, we had a family friend make some Peter Pan-inspired cookies. I love how they turned out!
We had the cookies customized to say Maxon written on some, like the Peter Pan silhouette cookies and Everly on some, like the Tinkerbell wand cookies.
We also had some of the cookies say “never grow up” to go along with the Neverland theme.
Pixie and Pirate Party Outfits
We had to have Evie and Maxon dress the part for their Neverland birthday party. I absolutely loved Everly’s adorable and comfortable Tinkerbell dress from Only Little Once. Her cousin Carter also showed up in the cutest Tinkerbell outfit.
For Maxon, we found a cute olive green romper from Amazon. I made both of their birthday crowns myself, inspired by these that I found on Etsy.
We had so much fun celebrating Everly’s third and Maxon’s first birthday’s. If you have little ones close in age, I highly recommend a combo party while they’re little. It certainly saved this mama a lot of time and stress!
