Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and today I’m all heart eyes because I’m teaming up with my friends at Symbology Clothing to share this gorgeous, custom dress that I partnered up with designer Marissa Heyl to create to help spread the love this year. Symbology not only creates unique, gorgeous clothing like the sheer red maxi dress I’m sharing today, but the brand also helps change the lives of women from India and the West Bank by employing them as the talented artisans behind the pieces in each collection. I’m all about sustainable, ethical fashion that shares the love and makes a difference in the lives of others and Symbology Clothing is doing just with their curated selection of boho chic dresses, tops and more that

When I met with Symbology designer Marissa Heyl earlier last year, I was immediately taken away with her drive to create fashion that’s not only beautiful, but empowers craftswomen by providing a sustainable income that allows the women and their families to thrive. Symbology came to fruition after Marissa took a research trip to India and got to see first hand the difference that fair trade can make in the lives of others and made it her mission to create a brand that “made fair trade sexy.” I was so inspire dby Melissa’s drive to do good and honored to collaborate with her to create a new piece in her collection.
To start the designing process, we perused through fabrics of all kinds and colors to find the perfect match. I knew I wanted to create a dress because I loved the easy, breezy boho styles the brand offered up on their website. As a girl who always has an assortment of little red dresses in her closet, this red sheer chiffon fabric immediately caught my eye. After we selected the color, we moved on to decide what silhouette we should use for the dress. Marissa had several options, from short sassy numbers to maxi dresses, and when I saw the silhouette of this sheer long sleeve maxi, I immediately fell in love with the ethereal illusion effect and the boho fit. Last up, we needed to decide on the details of the dress. A traditional in Indian culture, block printing is one of the staple techniques the Symbology artisans use in crafting the pieces, and I loved the way the prints looked against the fabric. Marissa opened a portfolio to show me all of the fun block print options they could do and the adorable baby cacti was calling me. What’s even better? She could also add a few gold cacti buttons o the dress as a fun and flirty detail. After that, Marissa set off to have the artisans design the dress and I was so impressed with the result when I finally got to see the dress in person.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, this is the perfect little red dress for date night with your guys or an outing with your gal pals. Help spread the love this Valentine’s Day with the Vandi Fair x Symbology custom maxi dress.
