Happy Friday friends!! I’ve been SO excited about sharing this post with you all, and given that tomorrow is the ultimate game day for every Texas fan, the TX-OU game, I thought today would be the perfect time to introduce La Casita Chips and Salsa, a delicious and easy tailgate appetizer! It’s ironic that this post follows one where I talked about how I got started blogging, because the owner/founder of La Casita, Veronica Westlake, (who is also a mega-inspiring #girlboss!) just so happens to be my fourth grade teacher, and was the very first person who recognized and inspired my love for writing. Flash forward 18 years and now the teacher who was such a huge influence on my journey to blogging has turned one of her passions into a business, and the results are delicious. As a girl who’s lived all of her life in Texas, I know a thing or two when it comes to good chips and salsa, and the La Casita hot sauce and chips is absolutely the BEST!
Click on the read more button below to find out why La Casita hot sauce and chips are an absolute must-have at your next tailgate or football watching party.
When it comes to snack cravings, I’m much more on the salty vs. the sweet side. That’s why I always have chips and salsa (as well as cookies and candy to satisfy Cole’s midnight cravings) readily available in our pantry. Tex Mex also happens to be my favorite food type ever (and Texas is obviously home to the best Tex Mex there is!) so I indulge in it quite often. All that’s to say, when it comes to judging chips and salsa, I definitely have the credentials. 😉
So first let’s talk about the most important factor of La Casita chips and salsa…the taste! The award-winning La Casita hot sauce is made with fresh, farm-to-table ingredients like serrano peppers, making them all-natural and low in sodium, unlike many jarred salsas on the market. You can truly taste the freshness of the ingredients in the bold, robust flavor of the salsa. Now I’m not a food critique, so I can’t tell you about the notes I taste in the salsa, but what I will confirm is that it is SO flavorful and absolutely delicious (one of those salsas that you could easily eat an entire jar of and not notice). I also love the consistency of the salsa…it’s not too thick and chunky, but not too watery either, just a perfect in-between that makes chip dipping a cinch! The La Casita chips are equally as delicious and are the perfect pair for the hot sauce(although they’re so delicious that I could totally eat them without any salsa or dip!). The chips are all-natural stone ground tortilla chips with no preservatives, trans fat or hydrogenated oils. What I especially love about the chips is how light they are! They have a perfectly thing, crunchy texture that doesn’t leave you feeling too full (so you can have a few, or 10, more!)
La Casita offers up three versions of their hot sauce: the medium original recipe, Abuela’s mild recipe and the caliente extra hot recipe. All three of the salsa recipes use the same delicious ingredients, the mild version simply has half the amount of peppers of the original recipe, while the caliente version offers up double, for those who like it extra spicy. What I love about the original recipe is that it still offers a flavorful amount of spice without that need-water-right-now kind of feeling. I’m a huge fan of the original medium version (but I do love the Abuela’s mild too!!) Cole absolutely loves all things extra spicy (I swear he enjoys the fact that spicy food make him sweat!), so he is a huge fan of the caliente extra hot sauce.
In my opinion, a Texas tailgate simply isn’t complete without chips and salsa, and the La Casita chips and salsa duo is the perfect appetizer to bring to a tailgate or party. Not only will they be a crowd favorite (so make sure you bring more than just one jar), but it’s an appetizer that takes 0 time to prep or make. La Casita is a touchdown when it comes to party food.
To shop La Casita hot sauce and chips for yourself, you can either purchase online from their website or if you’re local in the DFW area, check out your nearest Kroger’s (you will usually find them on the end of an aisle or on a saddle bag in the freezer section!) Click here to see a full list of where you can shop the amazing chips and salsa in-stores.
Last of all I have to talk about Veronica as a person (side note – it’s still so hard not to call her Mrs. Westlake, even when typing!) There are only a handful of teachers you can look back on in life and truly remember what a difference they made in your childhood, and I was so lucky to have Veronica as one of them. She truly instilled relationships with each of her students and was the very first person in my life to recognize and help develop my passion for writing. I’m ALL about women-owned businesses and I couldn’t be more excited or proud of her for taking a leap of faith and starting her own incredible business!!
PS – to all of my local DFW babes, you can try La Casita for yourself right now at the State Fair of Texas! Just head on over to the GoTexan pavilion and you’ll find the La Casita booth to try and shop + so many other amazing products made locally in Texas!
