If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen that my mama and I were recently whisked away to the colorful dreamland of Dorothy Draper during our stay at the iconic Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia (more on that to come in my full review of the resort!). In the weeks leading up to the trip, I stalked their website and instagram just dreaming up all of the fun outfits I could style in this stunning historical resort, and this particular room immediately caught my eye. From the bow-topped drapes to the bright and colorful print which was splashed on everything from the curtains to the upholstery, it gave me all the happy feels and I knew I had to pack an outfit to perfectly match it. This lemon print skirt that I scooped up from my friends at Morning Lavender was the perfect match for a room that was adorned in what I thought was also a lemon print. Closer inspection revealed a yellow rose print, but it was just as happy and colorful as I could have imagined, and I still managed to pull off the chameleon chic effect.

The secrets out, y’all – give me a bold, iconic print, and I’m all over it!! Whether in my house or my closet, you’ll always find bold prints like palm, stripes, lemon, etc., which is probably why I’m so obsessed with Dorothy Draper’s interior style that has helped make The Greenbrier Resort so iconic. This incredible woman was the creator of the first ever interior design company in America, y’all! And the photos above are just a peek at her bold, colorful and happy style that has forever been ingrained into American interior design. As I previously mentioned, I’ll be doing a full resort review of The Greenbrier, which has lots more of Dorothy Draper magic to come, later here on the blog, but I had to share a few peeks before, like the amazing infinity outdoor pool I shared a couple of weeks ago. What I really love about this room is that it shows how well completely contrasting, bold prints can compliment each other if done correctly. The feminine, happy yellow rose print, complete with giant bows (swoon!) is the perfect juxtaposition when paired with the masculine black and white square tiles. The final result is just breath-taking, making it a must-see space when you visit The Greenbrier.
Yellow has been trending in fashion and interiors this year, and I’m all about it. Whether through a zesty yellow print like the one I’m wearing today or a gorgeous yellow satin dress; a yellow ikat statement rug or , the color is such a simple way to add a little zest and happiness to your look or home. I love it so much, in fact, that I’ve linked some of my fave yellow pieces both for your wardrobe and your closet for you to shop below.
