The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the winter weather. For us folks down here in Dallas, that usually means really cold rain or a slushy, icy substance we like to refer to as snow (mostly so the school or work day is canceled). Whether you get to enjoy actual snow this holiday season or you pray for any kind of frozen precipitation, being prepared for winter weather means having a few essentials in your closet. Today I’m teaming up with my friends at Nordstrom to bring you an outfit that will keep you warm, dry and chic when winter weather hits.

One of the things I love about rain boots in general is that they can easily double as snow boots when you pair them with some cozy, warm socks. I brought a pair of rain boots last year on our family ski trip and wore them pretty much every time I went outside. Whether you’re looking for bright colors, neutrals, knee high boots or ankle boots, Nordstrom has endless options when it comes to finding the perfect rain boot for you. When I looked for a new pair of rain boots to buy this season, these bow-topped navy rain boots by Joules stole my heart. I love that the navy color goes with so much in my closet and the red ribbon bow detail on the back is just darling. The other thing you’ll need for winter weather is a jacket or coat to withstand the elements, like this bright yellow rain jacket by Topshop. This lightweight jacket can easily be worn on a rainy or sunny day and is certain to brighten up those gloomy days. I love the hooded feature to keep your hair dry when you forget your umbrella and the easily accessible front pockets. The jacket also features a darling striped print on the inside, so sleeve rolling is a must! Best of all, the jacket is just $100 and also comes in light blue, red and white options too!

I styled these rainy day essentials with some basics I also found at Nordstrom. These ripped white skinnies are the best ever and they are so affordable! Currently marked down to just $40, this pair of white skinny jeans has been my go-to for almost a year now, and they’re back in stock this season. For sizing references, I got a 25 but they stretch after a few wears and then will go back to the original fit after a wash, so I probably could have done a 24.

Next up, I styled a basic striped tee beneath the jacket. A striped long sleeve tee is a must-have in my opinion for the fall/winter season. I especially love this one because it’s long enough to wear under sweaters for a layered look. Also, it’s $19 – and you can’t beat that price.

I finished the outfit with this $25 plaid infinity scarf that tied all of the bright, primary colors together and my go-to turquoise tassel earrings.
