After accompanying my boyfriend Cole on his 16 hour road trip back to Texas (for good, y’all!), I wanted to share some photos and details on our amazing, last minute summer getaway we took a few weeks ago at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. As a baseball player, Cole’s career has taken him to some quite interesting places around the United States, and his most recent temporary home was in Rockford, Illinois. The first time I visited him, we decided to explore Chicago, but the next, he wanted to take me to a nearby lake he’d heard about. Being from Texas, I’ve spent plenty of weekends lakeside, but nothing could have prepared me for the charm, history and beauty of Lake Geneva.
Nestled between rolling hills and stunning beaches, Lake Geneva (both the name of the town and lake), is the perfect relaxing vacation. We had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Baker House, a restored 1885 Victorian style mansion that now doubles as a restaurant and bed and breakfast.
Beautifully restored with originals from the home and antiques, walking in truly feels like stepping back in time. They even have hundreds of hats from this era for guests to try on! If you don’t stay here, you at least have to stop by for a drink or a meal – the food was absolutely superb!
We stayed in the beautiful Bordeuax Room, and I was just obssesed with the gorgeous red velvet bedframe.
The stay at the Baker House included your own butler and complimentary French style breakfast delivered to your room each morning (with the best croissants I’ve ever had!) We also ordered room a few drinks and chocolate fondue – insanely delicious!
Gorgeous weather, delicious food, fun shopping and cruise tours of the lake were also perks of this town. One of my favorite parts was the walking path that goes all around the lake (22 miles), so you can take in the beauty of the lake and the mansions as you stroll. Because of an Indian Treaty signed in the 1800’s that still stands today, every lake front residence must keep a 3 foot wide path in front of their home open to the public. Cole and I walked a few miles down the trail and fell in love with one house in particular, which we later learned was home to the “Miracle Path”. The owner painted her part of the trail with hundreds of inspiring verses, quotes and lyrics. You can read more about the amazing story behind the house here.
