It’s hard to believe it’s been more than three weeks since baby girl arrived early, but even though I’ve traded my bump for a tiny, beautiful miracle, I still wanted to take some time to share our maternity photo session with my girl Angie Garcia here on the blog. Especially knowing how many photos I pinned on Pinterest for inspiration on what to wear and how to pose when shooting a maternity photoshoot with your husband, I thought this post might help give a little inspiration for some mama’s-to-be. This photoshoot was actually done just a week before Everly arrived and on a day in DFW where the high was 108. Note to self for future pregnancies…don’t have  a summer baby and take maternity photos at least a month before due date. Despite the heat, we’re SO glad we went ahead and shot the images that day or we may never have gotten any maternity photos with our first baby-to-be.

If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that Cole doesn’t make appearances in photos very often. Believe it or not, he doesn’t even have an instagram account, so he’s pretty “off-the-line”, as he like to say, when it comes to social media. That’s why anytime I have an opportunity to convince him to be involved in a shoot, I jump for it! So although we also did a couples photoshoot session for our pregnancy announcement, I simply couldn’t resist the urge for a maternity photoshoot with the bump in full force.

So first things first…the gown! Since I’d already done a boho white dress for our pregnancy announcement photos, I decided to celebrate the gender of our baby and go with something in the blush pink color family. My friends at Adrianna Papell actually reached out to me about sending some non-maternity, but bump-friendly gowns to shoot and I immediately fell in love with this sequin one with the prettiest blush undertones (they have a similar one with in a blue-silver tone that would be perfect for a baby boy to-be!) When you’re going to splurge a bit on the gown, make sure you go for one that you can also wear after your pregnancy. This gown will be a great option for a black tie wedding in the future, whether I’m with our without bump. Side note – I was suffering from pregnancy brain and didn’t prepare Cole’s outfit ahead of time, and he said he’d only agree to the shoot if he could wear whatever he wanted, so the morning of, he put the above ensemble on and that was it! It ended up working okay, although I would have preferred he went with some neutral tones instead.

When it comes to shooting with Cole, I especially like to be prepared with inspiration, and Cole does too! Before our shoot, I put together a Pinterest board prior to our photoshoot so I’d be prepared with pose ideas and have an idea of what we’d like to wear. Cole actually referenced the board several times throughout the shoot to make sure he was doing the poses right, haha.

As for the location, while I would have loved to do a dreamy summer beach shoot, you’re a little limited when it comes to options here in DFW. I always love a natural green backdrop, so the Tandy Hills Natural Area in Fort Worth was perfect. And due to the extreme heat, we decided to meet Angie to shoot at 7:30am, so the lighting ended up being just gorgeous.

Fairwell xx,

    Hi Lauren,
I love how your photo shoot turned out and you look stunning in that dress!
I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in June when I’ll be 35 weeks pregnant. This is the style dress the bride has picked, and I was just wondering how many sizes up you went in the dress and if you had to have it altered. It’s just so hard to plan for when I have so much time and changing to do between now and then. Thank you for your time, I would love some feedback!
