Eager to hear details about Princess Cruises newest cruise ship? After being one the first to experience the ship, I’m sharing a full review of the Sky Princess cruise ship along with my top 7 favorite new features.
This blog post was created in collaboration with Princess Cruises. All opinions are entirely my own.
Cole and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to partner with Princess Cruises for the inaugural voyage of the Sky Princess cruise ship. I still have to pinch myself thinking back on the experience.
Before I go on, if you’ve never cruised before be sure to read this first!
The Sky Princess Cruise Ship Video
The Sky Princess absolutely blew our expectations out of the water. But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s a video we made highlighting our favorite features of the cruise ship and memories on board.
We set sail from Triste, Italy for the four-day shakedown cruise. Then, we stayed on for the official inaugural voyage of the Sky Princess. A 7 day Mediterranean cruise sailing from Athens, Greece to Barcelona, Spain.
After 10 days on board the Sky Princess, we got to experience the beautiful new ship and all it has to offer.
Cole and I have cruised other Princess ships like the Ruby Princess on our Alaskan cruise and the Caribbean Princess on our Caribbean cruise.
The Sky Princess – Overview
Taking both our experiences from other Princess cruises ships and our latest experience on the new Sky Princess ship, I’m so excited to share a full review of the Sky Princess.
In a word, the Sky Princess is spectacular. It dazzles and delights with beautifully updated interiors that are modern yet upscale, visually appealing yet functional.
The staterooms have been designed with new tech, space-saving furniture and contemporary design. The pool deck, AKA lido deck, has been reimagined to an even bigger scale. And new entertainment venues and experiences have been added to appeal to cruisers of all ages and interests.
What I also love is that the Sky Princess still maintains the classic and elegant design of its predecessors, making it a perfect cruise ship for both first-time cruisers and veteran cruisers.
Cruisers who have sailed with Princess before won’t have to worry about getting lost on the ship. And new cruisers can easily find their way around after a few days on board.
From the interior highlights and newest features of the Sky Princess to the new dining and entertainment options, here’s what you can expect on board the Sky Princess.
Keep reading for all of our favorite highlights on the new Sky Princess ship.
Updated Staterooms
As usual, the first thing we did as we boarded the Sky Princess was head to our staterooms.
Cole and I had a standard balcony room, which is the same room we’ve stayed in on previous Princess cruise ships.
As we approached our cabin door, we were impressed by the new smart screens that listed our names and cabin numbers. And then we were amazed to find that the door recognized handle turned green, unlocking as we approached.
Gone are the days of rummaging through your pockets or purse to find your cruise card or medallion. The all-new smart cabin doors automatically recognize your OceanMedallions as you approach and greet you by unlocking your room for you. AMAZING!
We absolutely loved the new, clean design of the rooms. The overall look is clean and modern with a blue and cream color scheme.
The rooms also feature larger flat screen televisions mounted to the wall and built-in usb chargers on the nightstands.
I also noticed extra shelving space on the furniture and a more polished, modern look in the bathrooms.
Something that caught our eye when we first entered our room and checked everything out was a ladder in the closet area. It wasn’t until later, as I was lying down in bed, that I realized what it was for.
Located on the ceiling above where our twin beds were set up were two enclosures with key latches on the ceiling. It didn’t take me long to realize they were extra loft beds that you could unlock and use for a bigger family. Brilliant!! Now larger families can book a standard balcony suite and have plenty of room for everyone to sleep.
Biggest Princess Suites Ever + Balconies at Sea
One of the most amazing features on the new Sky Princess ship are the Sky Suites. Boasting the largest balconies at sea, these two suites crown the height of the ship so you can see take in the beautiful views and action throughout your voyage.
Princess allowed us to tour the Sky Suites and also hosted a cocktail hour on the balcony of the suites. Not going to lie, I was kind of geeking out. The Sky Suites are absolutely incredible!
I was amazed at how gorgeous and spacious the Sky Suite interiors are. Each Sky Suite hosts up to five guests and includes a dedicated Suite Experience Manager to deliver the most unparalleled service.
The master suite even features a bathroom with a large, luxurious bathtub AND seperate rain shower.
What impressed me the most; however, was the enormous size and scope of the balconies. Each 1,000 square foot balcony is continuous and offers a 270 degree panorama view of the ship and all the gorgeous surroundings.
The Sky Suite balconies are easily big enough to host a small party like ours. Each balcony is also equipped with a dining room table for four, a large day bed, loungers and an exterior bar with a mini fridge and TV.
The Sky Suite balconies are especially amazing for taking in spectacular views from every angle while scenic cruising. Even better, you can watch movies under the stars and all of the daily entertainment on the Lido Deck right from the balcony of the Sky suite.
You can read about all the Sky Suite amenities and details here.
Larger, Reimagined Pool Deck
Who doesn’t enjoy hanging out at the pool deck on a cruise ship? I’ve always loved how spacious and inviting the pool deck is on Princess Cruises. But the Sky Princess pools take it to the next level.
Also known as the Lido Deck, the pool deck is located on Deck 16 of the Sky Princess. Here you’ll find two large pools, three hot tubs and lots of lounge areas. I especially liked the new enclosed lounge areas located right in between the two pools.
On Deck 17 you’ll find the lounging deck, sprinkled with new lounge chairs and four additional hot tubs, too.
I love that the Royal Class ships don’t break up the two large pools in the center of the ship as they have in previous ships. It makes the pool space feel larger and more open. And honestly, it makes getting around less confusing.
The smaller (and always lees crowded) Wake View Pool located at the very back of the ship has also gotten a modern makeover. Now, you’ll find a gorgeous infinity style pool as well as a bar and tons of lounger chairs to soak up the sun.
New Entertainment Venues + Experiences
One of the things I love about cruising is the endless amount of entertainment options you’ll find on board as you cruise to your destinations. The Sky Princess features all of the Princess entertainment you love plus more.
New to the Sky Princess is Take Five, the only jazz theater at sea. During our first day at sea on board the Sky Princess, we ended our evening here. We loved the iconic, moody ambiance and the incredible jazz music. The drink menu was amazing too!
Also new to the Sky Princess is Princess Live, a smaller theatre and bar that offers cocktails, barista-made coffee, small bites and more! Cole and I quickly became regulars at this new spot.
Another new entertainment experience on the Sky Princess is the Phantom Bridge Escape Room. Although the escape room wasn’t ready quite yet during our cruise, I was especially excited to hear about this new experience. As someone who has been to an escape room before, I know it’s such a fun and unique experience that people of all ages can enjoy. And it would be especially fun to experience at sea!
Best of all on the Sky Princess are the new shows at the Princess Theatre. We got to be a part of the first audience to see Rock Opera, a musical blending opera classics with rock hits from your favorite musicals. From the spectacular costumes to the incredible talent, Rock Opera was absolutely AMAZING!! We loved it so much, in fact, we decided to go back and see it again.
A MedallionClass Experience Like No Other
Many ships in the Princess fleet have recently been upgraded to incorporate their incredible new MedallionClass technology. But Sky Princess is the first ship to have been built fully integrating the innovative smart technology system, so the experience is as immersive as ever.
We got to experience MedallionClass when it first released in Spring 2019 aboard the Caribbean Princess and were absolutely blown away.
New updates to the technology have made it even better than ever. Now, you can access all OceanMedallion services with just one app instead of multiple.
They’ve also added new items to OceanNow, the app that delivers necessities like cocktails right to your location on the ship. In addition to drinks, you can also order food and stateroom necessities like hangers, toiletries and more.
New Inclusive Dining Options
With made-from-scratch recipes designed by Michelin-star chefs, it’s no secret that Princess Cruises is known for having the finest dining at sea. And the Sky Princess offers Princess favorites along with some exciting new dining options too.
Aboard Sky Princess you’ll enjoy fine dining at their three main restaurants. One of the new dining experiences aboard the Sky Princess is Crafted by Chef Stone. Each night in the main dining rooms, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy fresh new selections by Chef Stone, in addition to the traditional dining room menu.
Cole and I both agreed that our experiences eating at the main dining rooms on the Sky Princess ship were the very best we’ve ever had. Each meal was so delicious and every night’s menu offered so many options.
For casual dining options, you can still enjoy favorites from Horizon Buffet or Slice Pizzeria (a personal favorite).
New casual dining options on the Sky Princess is The Salty Dog Grill, where you can order gourmet hamburgers, street tacos and more on the pool deck.
Also new to their inclusive options is Alfredo’s Pizzeria, a sit-down restaurant located on the top floor of the piazza. Alfredo’s offers freshly prepared individual-size pizzas, salads and beer and wine by the glass. Cole and I quickly became regulars here.
New Specialty Dining Options
The Sky Princess even has a Gelateria on board, serving up authentic Italian gelato. SO yummy!!
But by far our favorite new option was the Ocean Terrace Sushi Bar. A casual sushi bar with a great view of entertainment in the piazza, the sushi bar offers fresh sushi, sashimi and rolls as well as sake and Japanese beers. I think Cole ate here at least once a day.
For Sky’s specialty restaurant options, you can enjoy steaks and chops at fan favorite Crown Grill. Or you can opt for hand-made pasta at Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, another Princess favorite. Both restaurants are as delicious as ever while the interiors of have have gotten beautiful modern updates on the Sky Princess.
Also new to the specialty dining options on Sky Princess is Bistro Sur La Mer by Emmanuel Renaut. This French Bistro-style restaurant can be found dazzling the top deck of the piazza.
We got to try Bistro Sur La Mer during our Mediterranean cruise, which is exclusive to the Sky Princess. We absolutely loved it and decided it might just be our new favorite. The food was absolutely delicious, and we especially enjoyed the atmosphere with it being on the top deck of the piazza.
Reimagined Sanctuary and Lotus Spa
What’s a cruise vacation without a little rest and rejuvenation? Princess Cruises has kept health and wellness at the forefront in the design of the Sky Princess cruise ship. The adult’s-only Sanctuary has been reimagined with a larger-than-ever space featuring beautiful new furniture and, as always, gorgeous views of the ocean
The Sanctuary also features eight private cabanas and an adult’s-only pool and hot tub. You can also enjoy refreshing beverages and light meal options delivered wherever you chose to sit and relax as you take in the ocean views. Cole and I loved the new design of this gorgeous space on the Sky Princess.
One of me and Cole’s favorite spots on all Princess Cruise ships?! The Lotus Spa! The Lotus Spa on the Sky Princess definitely cruise ship lives up to its name.
On the Royal Class ships like Sky Princess, the Lotus Spa and Enclave can be found on the Piazza Deck right in between Guest Services and Shore Excursions. Cole and I loved the new layout and modern design and as always, both of our massages were amazing. I decided to go for one of the specials called the Thai Herbal Poultice Spa and it was divine. I’ve never felt so relaxed and rejuvenated!
Sky Princess – Takeaway
As amazing as our Princess cruises have been, our experience on board the Sky Princess ship definitely takes the cake.
Stay tuned for details on the destinations we stopped at along our Mediterranean cruise and more!
